Why is it that we can’t quit those who hurt us? It’s as though, somehow, we NEED that pain to feel alive. No matter how often they lie, we always always want to believe that the next time they’ll tell the truth.

That perhaps, just this once, there really WILL be cake.

But even if not this time, the continued hope for the future makes us crave every deception, as each one brings us closer to that time when it can and will and must finally be true.
